I take pictures of beautiful women because no beautiful woman I know wishes to be with me.

I take photos of joyous moments because joy is a distant faded memory to me and has become an alien concept beyond my understanding.

I take photos of people with their friends and lovers because I have lost all of mine and stand never to gain any again.

I learned this week that the person I love most considers me unimportant and I have no value to them.

Even Death has abandoned me. I am condemned to live out a long loveless and isolated life.

I say this here since I know no one reads this. Here I whisper to the void, and know no one listens, for if anyone actually did they would leave. No one wishes to give succor or pity to one who's heart is so shattered there is no hope in mending it. For all I have let is pain and despair, I cannot longer feel hope in my life. I cannot give anything useful emotionally so why bother with me?

That is why I am alone now. I have no longer any worth.

I have clean clothes yet nowhere to wear them. I have groomed myself to be as handsome and attractive as possible yet I know that I will be rebuffed and most likely ignored.

I put in the effort for naught. Yet knowing that at best I can expect failure and at worst complete and humiliating disdain, I will try. Only hope sustains me, and it is rapidly fading away. Despair and I are becoming old souls together. It is what I should have expected.

Every time I think of a certain holiday, I cry because I know that on that day I will feel nothing but loneliness, isolation and unloved. It happens every year and without fail it drives me into a long period of depression. It doesn't matter if I discuss it here. No one really reads this or in the end cares one wit about my well being or mental state.

I am an outcast, like some leper to be shunned. I am destined to end my life alone and forgotten. No one will mourn me, nor even know that I existed in the first place.

The past month....

The past month has been a difficult one. I've been depressed a bit, quite a bit actually. Some days I feel wonderful, others quite down, and to be honest I have been crying a bit. I feel so lonely most of the time now. My only true friend and constant companion is my camera.

I wake up, have a coffee...

...and hop onto the subway on to work.

I ride the trains quite a bit now. The tracks seem to lead to nowhere, much like my life right now.

I see musicians play...

..and sometimes watch as the people around me play their games.

One time I went and watched someone paint another person.

Most of the time I just thought about my failed relationships.

Occasionally I ran into an old friend.

Maybe things will get better.....

According to legend, one day a man came along and taught that we should love our enemies, turn our other cheek, and that faith and the mustard seed had a lot in common. According to legend this man died for the sins of the world, akin to a lamb that had been sacrificed on Yom Kippur to atone for some real or imagined transgression.

Personally I consider it myth, but many do believe this. Soon those who do believe will celebrate his death and supposed resurrection. Here is my interpretation of it all.

I'm going back to film for my street photography for a bit. As much as I love my Sigma DPs, they just aren't "Decisive Moment" cameras. The quality is fantastic, but I just lose to many moments. What I need is a good small manual camera that I can set at a hyperfocal and shoot. So after giving it some thought, I will be using my Olympus PenFT and it's array of lenses. Here is a shot of my Muse to start things off.

Yesterday, a unique thing happened. "Manhattanhenge" occurs twice a year. This is when the Sun and Earth are positioned in such a way that the light is shining directly down every cross street in Manhattan.

The Hidden World

One thing I miss from my old film days is shooting Infrared film. Kodak HIE in my old Pentax LX and Macophot in my Pentax 67 were miracle films that gave dream like effects.

While doing a little research I found out that Sigma's DP series compacts had a very special IR Cut filter, specifically cutting wave lengths from 650nm to 725nm. This is the range, that when shooting with all available light, causes slight magenta shifts in fabrics. However, the cut filter stops there and allows everything above that. So being ingenious, I grabbed a 093 B&W IR filter that removes all light below 750nm (i.e. all visible light). Much to my surprise it worked well. Granted I have no idea where the IR focus point is yet, but here in my first attempt. Everything you see here is above 750nm - true Infrared reflected light on my DP1 recording based on the plants somewhere near an upper limit of 950nm.

John Bartlett manned his boutique in the West Village. He along with Loris Diran are the only two major designers I know who actually man their own boutiques. By major I mean carried in department stores - Macy's for Bartlett and Sak's for Loris. Speaking of Loris...

Oh yes another shot of Kari! Again styled and in one of Loris Diran's fantastic dresses! This dress is from his upcoming Fall/Winter 2010 collection (the previous shot is a dress from his current Spring 2010 Collection). This dress is a "sample" - i.e. a prototype used for runway, showing to buyers and press, and of course for photo-shoots. One other thing you may notice is that this was not shot with a ring light! Instead this was shot with just available light and a reflector using one of the fastest lenses in the world, a Canon 85/1.2 II L lens, shot wide open at f1.2. This creates a very "dreamlike" effect. The B&W effect was done via a set of custom Duotone curves blending three Pantone colors to give the look of a selenium toned platinum print. The conversion routine was developed by The Ansel Adams Society.

I shot a lot of holiday windows this evening. Saks was showing off their new mannequins (something they advertised on the windows), and a little later I'll upload those, but for now, this was my favorite window on 5th Ave.

It's Bergdoff's, and features Alexander McQueen. Barney's used to always have the best and most creative windows, but as of late Bergdoff's has just been outclassing them by miles.

This week (wow I actually am posting one out on semi-schedule) I thought of sharing a photo from an editorial I recently shot. The inspiration comes from seeing a Boscht painting at The Met, and watching too much History Channel.

The idea here is a civilization, in the far future, that finds the last surviving polaroids from the last fashion shoot ever done by the last human survivors prior to mans extinction.

Here is the introduction for the editorial written by Charles Beckwith....
